AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH Gen.2:24

Becoming one is a journey
From leaving Parents and other things behind
Sacrificing behaviours and life style
That may hinder the success of cleaving together
We leave to cleave but the ultimate goal of cleaving
Is to become one in every area as much as possible

There is this Yoruba parlance that says
When a leaf stays long with a local soap
It will soon become soap itself
When both spouse stick and stay together
They will soon be reflecting one mind
Oneness speak about unity
When they both find a common ground
For agreement when there are two opinions

Having unity of purpose, vision and voice

Unity of purpose
Reaching a mutual stance
On the purpose of marriage
There are many things that couples need to
Find a common ground on

Unity of Vision
Division is the combination of two words
Di-vision which means two visions
When each spouse sees differently
And are not ready to reach a mutual stand
There will be division

Unity of Voice
When they both speak same language
The force of having one voice is powerful
God said there is nothing that cannot be
Accomplished when our voices are one
Having two voices means di-voice
Which simply leads to divorce

There is great peace walking
In the mystery of oneness with your spouse
Only a mad man shouts on himself
Only a lunatic beats himself
No sane person will be fighting himself

So when you are one
Whatever you do to your spouse
You are doing it to yourself

Also whatever people do to your spouse
They are doing it to you too
Any disrespect, maltreatment and abuse
Of your spouse by your siblings
Your friends, family, relatives or outsiders
To your spouse is a dose of insult on you too

So your spouse is an extension of you
It's a case of one soul in two bodies

One flesh means an emotional attachment
That takes precedence over all
Previous and future relationships
Placing greater weights
Upon ties with your spouse
Than any other person or relation
A good recipe for disaster in marriage
Is to do contrary to the Principles
Of Leaving and Cleaving
Becoming one emotionally, spiritually
Physically and financially

One flesh emotionally
The needs of one becomes the other's needs too
They both share their moment of sadness
And happiness together as one

One flesh spiritually
Doing some spiritual exercise together
Encouraging one another to be fervent
In the things of the spirit

One flesh physically
Having access to each other’s body
For procreation, pleasure and bonding
Share room, house and family together

One flesh financially
Sharing resources together
Bringing our finances together
For the betterment of the home

Remember oneness do not means
Loss of decision making ability of one spouse
Loss of control over everything to a spouse
Loss of individuality in one’s spouse

When the principle of being one is in place
There will not be issues in being NAKED
This will be the focus of the next write up
