BEATEN AND BATTERED BUT IT CAN GET BETTER
It was in Osun state polytechnic in the year 2004
I live close to a catholic church there
And in one of the nights
There came this heavy rain
So heavy and thick that everyone stayed indoor
But I had to make it home from a friend’s house
And while running to my hostel called St’ Jude Hall
There lies among the trees
A body hang on one of the trees
Fully drenched in the rain
I ran to held the leg up if she may still live
And with the help of two others
We brought the body down
And did all we could to make her come to life
And luckily for us we were not too late
One week later I went to see this pretty damsel
Curious to know why she choose to die than to live
Why with all her beauty and perfect figure
She find peace in death than life
My heart was heavy and the thought terrify me
I have read it in newspapers and watch it in movies
People committing suicide in various ways
But never been this close to the reality of it
And after everything she said that day
I walked back home more heavy at heart than I went in
But to wrap up our 3 hours talk that day I will say:
“She was beaten, battered and shattered by life situations
Her heart bled and her emotion
Was tortured by life circumstances
She was mentally pressured by her challenges
The brokenness the emptiness and
The loneliness she could not bare
So she opted for a suicide as a way of escape”.
Fast forward to last year march 2014
I was driving from Lagos
To Ogun state for a personal business
Just about 20 mins on the Abeokuta road from Sango
I decided to buy some fuel
At NNPC fuel station along the road
I met a woman there filling up her Toyota Corolla car
But as I came down from my car
And she turn to enter her vehicle
Here stand the same lady
That was half dead on a tree 10 years ago
She saw me and ran to hug me shouting my name.
She is with 2 lovely kids of her own and a good husband
What is the moral of this story?
You never live to win when you give up
The pressures that cause
Extreme emotional distress
Are similar everywhere
The situations may vary
But the heat of the pressures are the same
Everyone you meet on your daily life
They all have their own share of life troubles
But they never allow it to break them down
And that is the spirit that live to tell a victorious story
You must believe that things do get better
Learn to face both the bad and the ugly
And know that every tears come with its own lesson
It makes you wiser than before
And stronger than you know
Remember that morning comes at the darkest
Hour of the night
When it look so difficult and unbearable
That is when the relief is about to come
No matter how dark your situation may be currently
Be assured that morning will soon come.
World Health Organisation (WHO) statistic:
One person commit suicide every 40 seconds
Somewhere around the world
“Suicide kills more than conflicts,
Wars and natural catastrophes,” said
Shekhar Saxena, director of WHO's
Mental health department.
“There are 1.5 million violent deaths every year
In the world, of which 800,000 are suicides.”
In the last 45 years
Suicide rates have increased by 60% worldwide
Be free to share with your loved ones
And let end the constant increase
In the rate of suicides in the world.
You are valued and the world needs you.
And like Jessica Reedy said in her song BETTER
Life it can leave you so bitter
But you must believe that it get better
In your pain lies a blessing
A sweeter song of victory
And though it seem so far away
Keep walking.
Shalom!
But you must believe that it get better
In your pain lies a blessing
A sweeter song of victory
And though it seem so far away
Keep walking.
Shalom!
